Why do we sweat?
We sweat to cool our bodies down when we get hot.

Pip’s answer
- We sweat to cool our bodies down when we get hot.
- Tiny drops of water come out of little holes in our skin.
- As the drops dry up into the air, they carry heat away. Whoosh!
- Wow-ee, buddy, your skin has its own built-in cooling system!
For grown-ups
Sweat is mostly water released from sweat glands in the skin. When it evaporates, it carries heat away from the body, cooling us down. Humans have millions of sweat glands, which is one reason we are good at staying cool while active.
Ask your child: Where on your body do you sweat most when you run?
