Pip’s answer
- Owls stay awake at night because that is when they find their food.
- Their big eyes can see in very dim light.
- Their ears are so good, they can hear a tiny mouse in the grass!
- Wow-ee, owl feathers are so soft, owls fly almost without a sound!
For grown-ups
Most owls are nocturnal, hunting at night when mice and other small prey are active. Their huge eyes gather lots of light, their ears are so sensitive they can locate prey by sound alone, and soft-edged feathers make their flight nearly silent.
Ask your child: Can you walk as quietly as an owl flies?
