Why do we grow?
Your body is made of teeny tiny pieces called cells, buddy!

Pip’s answer
- Your body is made of teeny tiny pieces called cells, buddy!
- When you eat good food and sleep, your body makes more cells.
- More cells means you get bigger and taller, wonder-ful!
Try it together
Can you stretch up tall like a giraffe?
For grown-ups
Our bodies are made of trillions of cells. Growing happens when cells divide to make new ones, guided by hormones such as growth hormone, much of which is released during sleep. Good food, sleep and activity all support growth. Children grow fastest as babies and again during puberty.
Ask your child: Shall we measure how tall you are and check again in a few months?
