Why is it windy?
Wind is moving air, rushing from one place to another. Whoosh!

Pip’s answer
- Wind is moving air, rushing from one place to another. Whoosh!
- The sun warms some places more, and warm air floats up high.
- Cooler air slides over to fill the space, and that push is wind.
- Ooh, the air around us is always moving, even when you can't see it!
Try it together
Can you blow a big whooshy wind, buddy?
For grown-ups
Wind is air moving from areas of higher pressure to lower pressure. The sun heats Earth unevenly: warm air rises and creates lower pressure, while cooler, denser air flows in to replace it. Earth's spin curves these flows into large wind patterns.
Ask your child: How can we tell which way the wind is blowing today?
