Why does the sun rise in the morning?
The sun seems to rise because our Earth is spinning around.

Pip’s answer
- The sun seems to rise because our Earth is spinning around.
- In the morning, your side of Earth turns toward the sun.
- So the sun peeks up over the hills, and the sky gets light. Peekaboo!
- Wow-ee, the sun stays still, and we are the ones spinning!

Can you stretch up high like the morning sun?
For grown-ups
The sun doesn't actually move around Earth. Earth spins from west to east, so each morning your location rotates into sunlight and the sun appears to rise in the east; in the evening you rotate away and it seems to set in the west.
Ask your child: Which window in our home do you think gets the morning sun?
