Pip’s answer

  1. Two eyes work together to show how near or far things are.
  2. Each eye sees the world from a tiny bit different spot.
  3. Your brain mixes both pictures into one, so you can tell near from far.
  4. Wow-ee, that is how you can catch a ball!

Try it together

Can you close one eye, then the other? Wink wink!

For grown-ups

Each eye sees from a slightly different position. The brain compares the two images to judge depth and distance, called binocular or stereo vision. This helps with catching, pouring and judging how far away things are.

Ask your child: Try touching two pencil tips together with one eye closed. Is it harder?
