The sun is a giant ball of glowing gas!

Pip’s answer
- The sun is a giant ball of glowing gas!
- Deep inside, tiny bits squeeze together so hard they make light and heat.
- It is so big that more than a million Earths could fit inside, wow-ee!
For grown-ups
The sun is a star, a huge ball of hot gas, mostly hydrogen and helium. In its core, pressure and temperatures around 15 million °C force hydrogen nuclei together into helium in a process called nuclear fusion, which releases enormous energy as light and heat. About 1.3 million Earths could fit inside the sun.
Ask your child: Why do you think it's important never to look straight at the sun?
